This island was enchanting as corny as it sounds. We were "warned" on the mini flight over that violence had increased (we had researched this a ton before booking anything and everything is actually really safe so this was a total surprise) so we were on edge. Turns out the guy was a "big talker" and we really had nothing to worry about as long as we were using common sense and not involved in gangs-not difficult to stay away from !! Anyway after getting nervous upon arrival, it was amazing!! Loved Vieques! These little TINY frogs were all over outside the rental house. The girls went on a frog hunt after going out to the hot tub with grandma and brought this little guy in with the help of dad (Cam had just gone to sleep). Ilene was quite the little frog catcher though and would put him down and catch him. He really was like the size of a gummy bear, but they were oh so loud!!
The first beach we went to on Vieques. The sand farther back wasn't as picturesque and had pokers in it the water was AMAZING. So So SO calm, warm, and super clear! It stayed shallow for a really long time as well which was super nice!
OH man we had such a fabulous time playing in the sand!!
Our lunch for the day came from here...
And then we ventured to a beach just a little farther down the road. Totally beautiful, but not as amazingly calm so we passed it up for another one :).
This was the hike to Black Sand Beach
Loved this beach. Some pretty good waves, but just so stinking beautiful!
And the sand was really cool and super dark on the very top.
Notice I may have not worn sunscreen enough the day before hence the rash guard shirt and friend legs!
Super cool 1000 year old tree.
Next we went to Starfish beach or Navy Pier. Sadly you can't snorkel off the end of the pier but it was getting pretty "cold" and windy so the water was really choppy out that far anyway. We went back a ways and Ryan jumped in, dove down and brought up 30 starfish over the course of a few dives. My phone died right then so I don't have any pictures of all the starfish he brought up for the girls to sort :(.
They ended up sorting them all different ways-size, colors, number of legs. They had soo many!
The little tiny frog!!
The view coming down from our house to the balcony area.
Waiting for the ferry.
Just a residential area a few miles from our rental house.
There were a few coconut trees on the property so we collected some.
Mr. Survivor man cutting some coconuts open for the coconut water. We found the younger greener ones had better tasting water but the "meat" was too soft and kinda slimy, but the older drier ones had better coconut meat-firmer.
The people staying in the other house under the balcony had a cute little daughter named Lucy.
Here's a lovely morning hair pic just hanging out before breakfast.
Two little cuties walking back up to our house.
